Stichting Beeld & Geluid (Image & Sound Foundation) offers tailored educational classes for students of participating universities of applied sciences (hbo’s) across the Netherlands, covering themes such as civics, media literacy and disinformation.
As part of their offering, Beeld & Geluid has used Civinc as an innovative way to stimulate the discussion on these topics and draw out different perspectives amongst the student group. As part of a plenary lecture, students log into a Civinc session on their computer, respond to tailored thematic statements on the topic at hand, and are instantly matched to a peer with different views. In anonymous one on one chats, dozens to hundreds of couples exchange views at the same time.
The added value, according to Patricia van Rijswijk (teacher and course designer at Beeld & Geluid):
“The beauty of it is that peer pressure plays no role whatsoever when discussing any complicated or sensitive topic.”
Want to use it with your students? Civinc is free to use in higher education, so just shoot us an email (hello@civinc.co) or create your own account.
